Is Jazz music really hard to appreciate?

For quite some time already, I seem to be adapting my listening habits to the not-so-popular jazz, especially vocal jazz. Guess, it a sure sign of the fact that age is catching up with me? That's life, isn't it?

I remembered that I started off listening to chinese music first. Some times later, during the period of National Service, I switched over to retro music. Guess it stuck with me for quite a long while. Don't really know exactly when, perhaps some time around 2003, I started to listen to new age music.

Well, listening to the type of music tends to be a result of my mood, it seems. For example, during exams period, I used to listen to chinese music, not that I am crazy into it, it was more like not wanting the music to affect my studies (concentrating on the music rather than the studies)! And during Fridays mostly, I listen to retro songs -> a sure sign that I wanted to go out crazy and relax after a hard week of work. Mostly, during office, I listen to a mix of classical/newage/jazz, etc. Classical comes into play when I am stressed and is concentrating VERY hard on the task on hand. And this is serious -> it really meant I am stuck or have to make a tough decision!

Listening to jazz music does not come easy. It's very hard to appreciate all type of jazz categories and jazz songs. It takes time for myself to establish the type of jazz music that I like -> vocal jazz, smooth jazz. Sometimes I still can accept lounge jazz too.

Anyway, I bought 2 CDs today - Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" and Michael Buble (untitled). I was longing for the Norah Jones CD for quite some time already, thanks to sandrapowerpuff background music that I found out to be 'Come Away With Me'. Well, guess my next step is to make a compliation CD out of the various jazz CDs that I owned, and of course, waiting for my colleague to lend me her collections! high^5!
